What do citizens of the Magic Valley care about immigration? Or, more precisely, what can we do?
Isn’t this a conversation that needs to happen at the national or state level?
In this series, I look at an article that tackles immigration from a pro-illegal immigration perspective.
I’m looking for hidden bias, helpful definitions, and possibly a solution to the immigration problem.
I believe residents of the Magic Valley are responsible for our community. Not the federal government or even the state. In the end, we’re the ones who take care of our neighbors. Good journalism can help us think through issues and can give us good information that’s specific enough to act on. And it can only do this if it asks the basic questions — the “stupid” questions — that today’s culture doesn’t want us asking.
The article I’m responding to was written by Ali Noorani, called “Is the solution to America’s immigration crisis hiding inside an Idaho dairy farm?”, an excerpt from his book. This article appears in the Deseret News here.
